About KLM
How I Started
My name is Karen and I started KLM hypnotherapy following intensive training from Innervisions School of Clinical Hypnosis. Innervisions is a recognised training provider by the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC). I am also a licensed Hypnoslimmer consultant.
I am based in North Nottinghamshire where I see clients from age 5 upwards. I offer clients face-to-face sessions in my clinic base. I also offer sessions via social media channels e.g. zoom/teams, if this is preferred. (This is at no extra cost).
I qualified as a nurse in 1988, (RGN,RSCN,DipN) and have been working in the field of children’s mental health services (CAMHS) since 2005.
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is natural and safe. A lot of people’s experiences regarding hypnotherapy is based around stage hypnosis. People can sometimes be concerned that a hypnotherapist can make a person divulge information they don’t really want to, or can make them act in a way that causes them embarrassment. This is simply not true.
Clinical hypnotherapy works on the assumption that our mind can be split into the conscious mind and the subconscious mind.
The conscious mind makes up approximately 20%, whereas the subconscious mind relates to the other 80%.
Our conscious mind is the logical part of our mind, it has a sense of humour, it is analytical and it is the thinking part of our mind. The conscious mind allows us to make the conscious decisions for example if we are going to walk or run, if we are going to move our arm etc…
The subconscious mind is where our emotions and feelings come from, it is where our long-term memory sit. Where our habit patterns, relationship patterns and our addictions are formed. The subconscious mind is also responsible for our involuntary bodily functions like blinking, breathing, it is also where creativity and spiritual connections are. The subconscious mind keeps us safe.
We all naturally go in and out of hypnosis on a daily basis. Have you ever been driving your car on a familiar route, and although you have been in full control throughout the journey you seem to have been on automatic pilot, and have no recollection of how you got to your destination? If so, you have already experienced a light hypnotic trance. Have you ever been watching your favourite TV programme, and although you have watched and listened to it intensely, when somebody comes into the room and asks what is happening and what has just been said, you have no idea what is happening on screen? This again is a hypnotic trance.
As a Clinical Hypnotherapist, I will use language patterns that can guide you into a deeper state of hypnosis which allows your subconscious mind to become more accepting of suggestions. During this process, I can help you challenge your old thinking patterns, create new ideas, which will create new pathways in your brain and which can reduce any unwanted feelings that you may currently have. For example, you can reduce anxiety, increase your confidence and self-esteem and break unwanted habits to name but a few.
What Happens During a Hypnotherapy Session?
The therapy session can take place face-to-face at my clinic base or if you prefer this can be done in the comfort of your own home via a social media platform like zoom or Microsoft teams.
This will be discussed and agreed upon at the initial free consultation. During the consultation I will be open and honest if I feel that hypnotherapy is not the right therapy for you at this time.
Of course, even if hypnotherapy is suitable, there is no obligation to book sessions with me following the free consultation.
I will ask you to complete an assessment form which will ask you about what you want to achieve from the hypnotherapy sessions, your likes and dislikes, your hopes and fears. It is essential that you answer the questions honestly so a tailored programme of support can be offered to you. It is helpful to be aware of likes and dislikes so these can be incorporated into the therapy.
The process:
Regardless of whether this is online or face-to-face, I will ask you to make yourself comfortable , with your feet on the floor, hands resting on your lap, back against a chair. I will then guide you through an induction process which will help you feel relaxed and at ease. When you are in a deep state of relaxation/hypnosis, we will work on whatever it is that you are coming to see me for. Depending on what you are asking for will depend on how long this session takes. On average, be prepared for the session to last approximately 45 minutes. When the therapy has taken place, I will gently wake you from your trance.
It is important to know that everyone experiences hypnosis differently, there is no wrong or right way of experiencing this. You will be in complete control during the hypnosis session, and you will be aware of your surroundings, in fact, senses, eg hearing can be heightened when in a hypnotic state.
There is no danger of you staying in a hypnotic state. The worst thing that can happen under hypnosis is that you will fall asleep. However, if this happens, you will wake up as normal.
